Portuaria Corral handles the largest vessel in its history

The port of Corral will experience a milestone today, as the largest ship in its history is expected to call at the terminal. It is the ship Acacia, with an approximate capacity of 70,000 metric tons MT, and will sail from Los Ríos to Yangpu China.

"Our team has been preparing for several weeks to receive this vessel, which is special, because we usually work with ships with an average capacity of 57,000 MT and the maximum we had attended was 60,000 MT", detailed the general manager of Portuaria Corral, Diego Sprenger.

The executive added that the region is a key point for the export of woodchips from Chile and the port has had a sustained growth from 2016, with more than 1 million tons shipped on average.

"Receiving this vessel is also a reflection of the modernization work we have developed over the last few years, which includes, among others, the renewal of all the conveyor belts for the transfer and shipment of wood chips; the renewal of the maneuverability study, which increased the draft to 12.8 m and allows us to increase the beam of the vessels we receive to 38 m; and the upcoming approval of night maneuvers. This allows us, together with our workers, to continue improving our services and remain competitive in the service of the forestry industry," said Sprenger.

The loading maneuvers consider the joint work of approximately 20 workers per shift and it is estimated that the ship will stay for about 10 days. In addition, for the attention of this particular ship, the terminal will have a mobile crane for the movement of heavy machinery on board the vessel.
