Dome construction announced for the city of Valdivia

"It can become a tourist landmark and opens up the possibility of new night sailing routes, in an area that the dome will revitalize," said Jimmy Davis, president of the Tourist Shipowners.
Portuaria Corral presented its ambitious investment plan for 2030, highlighting among its projects the construction of a dome to cover the wood chips stored in the Miraflores neighborhood.
This new infrastructure, which will be built on an area of approximately 20,000 square meters and will reach a height of 30 meters, has an estimated investment of US$3.5 million.
The proposal not only has an operational objective, but also an aesthetic and environmental one. The dome is expected to become an architectural landmark for both the city and the region.
"We are investing in the future with projects that seek to optimize our standards and deepen the sustainability of our daily operations," said Diego Sprenger, the company's general manager.
Utility of the dome and approval of neighbors
It is important to note that the construction of the dome will not imply an increase in the volume or surface area of wood chips, but will improve the quality of the product by reducing the humidity in the wood chips.
This, in turn, will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of Chilean wood chips in international markets. In addition, the new structure will improve the externalities derived from the operations,
"The construction of the dome is great news for us and we are very happy to have worked together with Portuaria Corral. We have always looked for solutions that minimize the environmental impact and improve the quality of life of the neighbors, and with Portuaria we have been able to do that work", commented Cecilia, president of the Junta de Vecinos de Arica.
The project has been voluntarily socialized with the community through open meetings, where Portuaria Corral has exchanged information with more than 30 local organizations, including neighbors, unions and authorities, totaling more than 150 residents of the commune.
During the socialization process, both the representatives of the tourist boat guild and the Convention Bureau and/or businessmen of the industry have highlighted the potential of the new element in the landscape.
"It can become a tourist landmark and opens up the possibility of new night sailing routes, in an area that the dome will revitalize," said Jimmy Davis, president of the Tourist Shipowners.
Projected to 2025
The next step will be to carry out the technical and economic analysis for its construction. In addition, collaboration with experts in the area of light projection and visual effects that will further embellish the structure is being evaluated.
"We hope to have the dome operational in the second half of 2025. We are sure that it will not only improve the competitiveness of the region and Chile in this sector, but will also be an element appreciated by the entire community," concluded Sprenger.
